The former head of the National Police, Aminta Granerawill also be investigated for the complaint filed in Argentina against the presidential couple and seven of its officials, which seeks to determine whether the regime and its subjects committed crimes against humanity during the 2018 social protests.
According to the Argentine media infobaethe complaint filed by the Center for Inter-American Legal Assistance in Human Rights (CALIDH) was expanded this Thursday, November 17, and has included Granera to determine her degree of responsibility as director of the Police in Nicaragua during the repression perpetrated in the April 2018 outbreak.
“The action of the National Police during the repression of April 2018 requires the investigation of the responsibility of Ms. Aminta Granera Sacasa and, in addition, justifies the criminal responsibility of the President of the Republic of Nicaragua for crimes against humanity executed by action or omission through of the National Police, in accordance with the complaint duly presented”, indicates the document expanding the complaint.

It adds that “during the month of August 2018, the arrest of more than 20 college studentsSome of them are members of the April 19 Movement and others of the University Coordinator for Justice and Democracy. Among them were Byron Estrada, Luis Muñoz, Nahiroby Olivas, Luis Rugama, Yaritza Mairena and Víctor Obando.
Aminta Granera became head of the National Police on September 5, 2006 and remained in that position until April 27, 2018. The former official at the time enjoyed high levels of credibility, popularity, and acceptance in Nicaragua.
The expansion of the complaint also requires that the violation of the right to education be considered as part of the systematic plan of repression, which is reflected in the control of the universities and the restrictions on their operation, “accompanied by the deprivation of liberty of students and opponents of the regime”, as can be read in the document presented.
On November 2, CALIDH filed a complaint for crimes against humanity against the dictator Daniel Ortega, his wife Rosario Murillo and the seven officials of the regime, before the National Criminal and Correctional Court number four of the Judiciary of the Argentine Nation, Based in the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires, Argentina.
The investigation is also against Francisco Diazdirector of the National Police; Ramon Avellandeputy director of the Police; Nestor Moncada Laupresidential adviser for security policies; Sonia Castro, former Minister of Health of Nicaragua; Fidel Morenosecretary of the Mayor’s Office of Managua; Ramona Rodriguez, Chancellor of the National Autonomous University of Nicaragua (UNAN-Managua) and Alba Luz Ramospresident of the Supreme Court of Justice (CSJ) and now, the former official Aminta Granera.
«CALIDH considers that these officials are responsible for planning, directing and executing various behaviors sanctioned by the crime against humanity established in article 7 of the Rome Statute, in the framework of systematic and widespread attacks against the civilian population, since they committed the crimes murder, extermination, torture, rape and other forms of sexual violence, forced disappearance of people, among others,” the organization said in a public statement.
