Argentine journalist Jorge Lanata died

The Argentine journalist Jorge Lanata died this Monday at the age of 64 after spending several months admitted to a hospital in Buenos Aires with a delicate health condition, according to local press.

In mid-June of this year, the journalist was admitted to the intensive care unit of the Italian Hospital in Buenos Aires for respiratory problems, which became more complicated over time. After several months of ups and downs in his health, the radio and television host was admitted again to the Intensive Care Unit, where he died this Monday.

A journalistic reference

Born in the coastal city of Mar del Plata on September 12, 1960, Lanata excelled in investigative journalism, as founder of the newspapers Página/12 and Crítica de la Argentina and as a radio and television host.

Established as a journalistic reference in Argentina and Latin America, he received numerous awards, including several Martín Fierro awards. During his last years, he stood out as a television host of the political journalism program ‘Journalism for all’ and the radio series ‘Lanata sinfiltro’.

The television channels of Grupo Clarín, where he worked during the last stage of his career, interrupted their programming to break the news and broadcast specials about the life and work of Jorge Lanata.

The journalist, who struggled for many years against various severe health problems, was admitted to the Italian Hospital on June 14 and since then his condition has become increasingly serious, with heart, respiratory and kidney problems, among other issues. . Last week, after being consulted about the journalist’s health, his wife, Elba Marcovecchio, warned that his condition was very delicate and that it was a “day-to-day” matter.
