The Argentine Court issued arrest warrants against 61 Brazilian fugitives who had extradition requests sent by Brazil for having participated in the undemocratic acts of January 8 last year.
The decision was made by the judge of the 3rd Federal Court of Argentina, Daniel Rafecas, and comes after the Brazilian embassy in Buenos Aires sent 63 extradition requests to the Argentine chancellery, at the request of the minister of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), Alexandre de Moraes , who is the rapporteur of the January 8th criminal proceedings at the Court.
This Thursday (14), police in the province of Buenos Aires made the first arrest of one of the fugitives in the city of La Plata. According to the police, Joelton Gusmão de Oliveira, 47, was arrested and sentenced to 17 years in prison in Brazil.
About a year ago, Moraes ordered to release Joelton Gusmão de Oliveira to comply with precautionary measures, such as the use of an electronic ankle bracelet. According to the decision, he was prohibited from leaving the country, his permits to carry a weapon and his certificate as a collector, sports shooter and hunter (CAC) were suspended, he had to surrender his passport and present himself to the Court every week.
In February this year, Joelton was condemned for the acts of January 8, together with 14 other defendants, for violent abolition of the Democratic Rule of Law, coup d’état, qualified damage, deterioration of listed property and armed criminal association.
The police report says that he was detained after an officer patrolling the city’s streets observed that the Brazilian had a suspicious attitude. The document reports that, when investigating the Brazilian’s data, the Argentine police authorities identified that there was a request for capture and detention against him, following a request for extradition by the Brazilian courts.
