Argentina will send aid to Cuba to shovel the damage of Hurricane Ian

The government of Argentina offered this Monday aid to Cuba for the recovery of the damages caused by the Hurricane Ian that recently devastated the western region of the country and caused the collapse of the electrical system throughout the island.

In accordance with a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the South American nation, the White Helmets Argentine Agency for International Cooperation and Humanitarian Assistance (Aciah) ordered the delivery to the Caribbean nation of 19 boxes of pills to make up to 950 thousand liters of water drinkable, reported the agency Latin Press (PL).

Some 2,000 people will benefit from the shipment for 90 days and thus collaborate with the response of the Cuban Government to the needs of the population of Pinewood of the riverthe most damaged by the climatic phenomenon.

The publication also specifies that the Argentine foreign minister, Santiago Cafiero, the ambassador of that country in Cuba, Luis Ilarregui, and the president of Aciah, Sabina Frederic, provided the island’s authorities with the assistance deemed necessary.

In addition to water purification tablets, Argentina is preparing kitchen kits, which could be destined for those who remain evacuated and require basic supplies to prepare their food, the document points out.

So far, two other fatalities related to the hydrometeorological event have been reported, in this case two workers from the Electrical Union (UNE) who participated in the recovery efforts in the capital.

Although the official media have not referred to the issue, alternative media reports based on information appearing on social networks indicate that both linemen would have received strong electric shocks that caused their death.
