This week, the Argentine authorities announced the release of their citizens Roberto Baldo, imprisoned since the end of 2024, and Gustavo Gabriel Rivara, detained in January 2025.
The Argentine Foreign Minister, Pablo Quirno, reported this Friday the 6th that the Governments of Israel, the United States and Italy are collaborating in the negotiations to achieve the release of the two Argentines detained in Venezuela.
«The hostage situation in Venezuela is a very, very delicate situation. The Argentine Government is aware of the situation, minute by minute. “He has been with friendly countries and with our own efforts achieving the release and news of the different political hostages that Venezuela holds of Argentine citizens,” said Quirno during a press conference at the Casa Rosada (seat of Government).
Furthermore, he expressed that Argentina has tried to moderate its rhetoric on this issue “due to the delicacy of the situation” and because, despite the fact that in recent weeks three detainees with Argentine citizenship were released, gendarme Nahuel Gallo and lawyer Germán Giuliani are still there.
“We continue to demand his release, and we are not just demanding with lip service, but we are acting, every day, with our friends, fundamentally with the United States, with Italy, with Israel, who are also our allies in this very painful situation,” added the chancellor, and insisted: “It is not only posed as a statement, we are acting decisively on the issue jointly, with this entire group of countries.”

Quirno’s statements follow a meeting this Thursday with Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado in Washington, in which they discussed “the situation in Venezuela” and “the transition to democracy” in the Caribbean country, as well as efforts to free “all political prisoners, Venezuelans and foreigners.”
This week, in addition, the Argentine authorities announced the release of two compatriots who were detained in Venezuela: Roberto Baldo – imprisoned since the end of 2024 – and Gustavo Gabriel Rivara – detained in January 2025 -.
As reported this Thursday by the NGO Foro Penal, at least 383 political prisoners have been released in Venezuela since the president of Parliament, the Chavista Jorge Rodríguez, announced almost a month ago the release of a “significant number” of people.
The Venezuelan Parliament approved the amnesty bill this Thursday in the first of the two debates necessary for the creation of regulations in Venezuela.
The amnesty bill is proposed for political prisoners of the last 27 years in which Chavismo has governed and excludes crimes such as serious violations of human rights, crimes against humanity and war crimes.
