Argentina is once again out of the World Rally Championship in 2023, of which it has not been a part since 2020, when the covid-19 pandemic broke out and its stage had to be suspended, its organizers reported this Wednesday.
Through a statement, the Automobile Club Argentino and the Organizing Committee of the Rally Argentina indicated that the promoter of the World Rally Championship (WRC) has informed them “that the Rally Argentina does not integrate the list of competitions within the proposed calendar for 2023” .
However, the organizers submitted “a formal request” to the World Rally Commission so that “the current situation is reviewed and, if possible, reversed” during its next meeting, which will take place before the end of September.
The organizers recall that “the unavoidable sports history” of this race “is internationally recognized”, which is why, since its interruption in 2020 due to the pandemic, they have worked “incessantly” and “in permanent dialogue” with the promoter of the World Cup.
“During all this time, the Automobile Club Argentino and the Organizing Committee have respected the established processes, within the framework of the required confidentiality and with the professionalism that has always characterized them with the desire that the Rally Argentina occupy one of the dates that will have the next season, “he adds.
That round of the World Rally Championship was held in Argentina from 1980 to 2019, the year of its last edition within the WRC, uninterruptedly, except in 1982, when it was not run.
In addition to Córdoba, its headquarters in 35 of the 39 editions disputed, the Rally of Argentina also toured the lands of Tucumán, Bariloche and Catamarca.
The rider who won the most times in this World Championship event was the Frenchman Sebastian Loeb, with eight wins, followed by the Spanish Carlos Sáinz, the Finnish Tommi Makinen and the Italian Miki Biasion, with three each. EFE
