Argentina obtained the official support of China to enter the Brics

China confirmed its support for the incorporation of Argentina to the Brics group -the group of nations and emerging powers that make up Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa- in the framework of a meeting that Foreign Minister Santiago Cafiero held this Thursday in Indonesia with his Chinese counterpart, Wang Yi.

This was reported on Wednesday morning by the Foreign Ministry through a press release, in which it indicated that, at that meeting, Wang Yi formally confirmed his country’s support for Argentina’s membership of the Brics group, in line with what was agreed between the group leaders.

In that framework, the Chinese foreign minister highlighted the participation of President Alberto Fernández in the leaders’ summit meeting on June 24, as well as that of Cafiero himself at the meeting of foreign ministers on May 19.

Shortly after, the foreign minister himself announced the Asian giant’s support for Argentina’s entry into this bloc of emerging nations with a message posted on his Twitter social network account.

“The Chinese Foreign Minister, Wang Yi, confirmed the accompaniment to the membership of Argentina to the BRICS. In addition, with the High Representative for Foreign Affairs of the European Union, @JosepBorrellF, we agree on the need to promote the Celac-EU dialogue,” he wrote the official in social networks.

The meeting between Cafiero and Wang Yi took place within the framework of the G20 Foreign Ministers’ meeting taking place in Bali, Indonesia, in which both participate.

As explained by Palacio San Martín, both officials They analyzed “the most important issues on the bilateral agenda in order to deepen the Comprehensive Strategic Association that unites both countries.”

The Argentine foreign minister also recognized Chinese support for the Argentine position on the Malvinas Question through his interventions as a member of the Special Committee on Decolonization.
