CDMX, Mexico-. Argentina wins its third World Championship after defeating France on penalties. After 36 years, the South American team lifted the coveted trophy once again in a match that was highly contested until the last moment.
In the Qatar 2022 final the dispute came tied at three goals on penalties. There the failures of Coman and Tchouameni in the batch condemned France. For its part, the Albiceleste team, with its first four pitchers —Messi, Dybala, Paredes and Montiel— were on target against Lloris.
During the first part of the game there was dominance of the South American team that reached the intervals with a score of 2-0 in their favor. However, the game of France changed the landscape in the second half.
Kylian Mbappé revived ‘Les Blues’ and put them into play. In a game not for the faint of heart, France’s counter-offensive began when Mbappé ran into a ball in the air and fired a powerful shot that landed in the back of the South American goal.
In overtime they reached 2-2, but Argentina once again had control of the ball; and moved the marker in his favor, thanks to Messi.
With barely four minutes left to finish, France turned upside down on the field and tied again. Once again, Kylian Mbappé took the ball, and repeated the formula.
Everything was decided in penalties. Argentina hit all four of their shots, while France missed twice.
With this triumph, the idol Lionel Messi manages to be world champion like the other Argentine reference: Diego Armando Maradona.
