The Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Daniel Filmusand its pair from Brazil, Luciana Barbosa de Oliveira Santoswill sign this Monday cooperation agreements in biotechnology, nuclear research, marine sciences and Antarctica, as well as energy transition and environment, information and communication technologies, nanotechnology, and ocean science, it was officially reported this Sunday.
In this context, Argentina and Brazil will relaunch the Binational Program in Science, Technology and Innovation and they will sign a Memorandum of Understanding on Scientific Cooperation in Ocean Science.
In the afternoon, Filmus and Barbosa de Oliveira Santos will hold a meeting at the Scientific and Technological Pole, in which they will talk about priority issues of cooperation between Argentina and Brazil, and will set the date for the next meeting of the Mixed Commission.
What are the agreements about?
The Brazilian-Argentine Binational Program in Science, Technology and Innovation, framed in previous agreements of the years 1980 and 2003, aims to deepen an action plan for the next biennium, which strengthens the bases of cooperation in priority areas in the field of science, technology and innovation between both countriesthey pointed out.
The biotechnological cooperation, they indicated, has as its objective the training of human resources through joint research projects and the promotion of the development of industrial biotechnology, within the framework of the Latin American Center for Biotechnology (Cabbio).
The agreements also include the development and implementation of a Regional Weather Satellite to strengthen regional sovereignty in this area, the use of satellite launch bases in Brazil and Argentina and the SABIA-Mar Mission.
The nuclear research includes visits to the RA-10 Multipurpose Argentine Nuclear Reactor, located at the Ezeiza Atomic Center (Buenos Aires province) and to the Carem reactor located in the City of Lima (Buenos Aires province), and meetings with the company Investigación Applied (Invap).
They also propose to advance in a joint mission to Antarctica bases and deepen cooperation on oceanic issues through Pampa Azul for Argentina and Ciencia en el Mar, for Brazil, and the strengthening of the Trinational Pact for the Atlantic Forest, and promote progress for cooperation in matters of hydrogen, lithium and electromobility.

In addition, promoting joint work in the regional project to promote the Biodiversity research in the Gran Chaco/Amazon regionand advance a joint strategy in artificial intelligence, cooperation in border epidemiological surveillance and enhance cooperation through joint research projects within the framework of the Argentine-Brazilian Center for Nanotechnology.
Meanwhile, the Memorandum of Understanding on Scientific Cooperation in Ocean Science will last for five years, with automatic renewal, they stressed.
It includes joint research projects and studies in the field of ocean sciences and the joint development of new technologies in fields related to the environment, such as renewable energy, waste treatment and processing, new construction materials and others of common interest.
In addition, the promotion of professional training of specialists, scientific, technical and logistic personnel, including education and awareness activities, and the exchange of information on national laws and regulations, and on the operations/activities carried out by the Parties in scientific facilities in jurisdictional waters.
