Numerous passengers, including tourists, have been moving on foot along the highway between the districts of Cabanoconde and Chivay, in the province of Caylloma, in the Arequipa region, because the road was made impassable for vehicles due to the fall of huge rocks. This, after last earthquake of magnitude 5.5 that affected this southern part of the country.
This Wednesday it was also reported that tourist visits to the Mirador de la Cruz del Cóndor, in the Colca Valley, were suspended due to the blockade of the road that leads to Cabanaconde, due to the detachment of rocks, as a result of the telluric movement of the early morning in the Pinchollo sector of the aforementioned district.
The Colca Autonomous Authority (Autocolca) issued a statement this morning informing about what happened in several sections of the Maca-Cabanaconde highway, the most affected part being where the Peña Blanca tunnel is located.
COER report
According to the preliminary report of the Regional Emergency Operations Center (COER), there are 4 districts most affected in the province of Caylloma by the earthquakes recorded in recent days. In the district of Maca, 150 homes were affected and 20 were disabled. In the Pinchollo area (Cabanaconde) 8 houses were affected and 15 houses completely disabled
Likewise, in Lari, 25 houses were reported disabled, and in Madrigal the earthquakes caused damage to 20 properties that were left uninhabitable. In Maca, one of the most affected districts, there is a report of 100 affected families.
The Regional Government of Arequipa reported that it has ordered the installation of housing modules in the affected areas.
