Arequipa: They seize 49 frogs from Lake Titicaca that were to prepare broths (VIDEO)

At least 49 frogs were seized today at a stall at the Altiplano Fair in the district of Miraflores, when they were sold to prepare broths, concoctions and extracts, because they are attributed properties such as improving brain capacity, generating breast milk, as well as postpartum improvement.

Although these theories are not scientifically proven, merchants offered frog-based preparations, despite the fact that this species is in the category of critically endangeredaccording to Supreme Decree No. 004-2014-MINAGRI DS

According to the information of the National Forest and Wildlife Service (Serfor) cFive of the 49 frogs that were transferred from Lake Titicaca were found dead, due to the poor conditions in which the merchant kept her, inside a bag and totally overcrowded.

The woman stated that the amphibians were brought at the request of a client for a remedy, but did not give further details such as the name of the alleged client.

The staff of Serfor moved the 44 frogs to its facilities in order to carry out a health evaluation and after that return them to their natural habitat in coordination with the staff of the same institution in Puno.
