The students of the Corazón de Jesús Educational Institution – CIRCA, located in the Mariano Melgar district of Arequipa, developed an innovative system that reuses the water used in handwashing to clean the campus toilets. This initiative seeks to reduce the high monthly consumption of drinking water and optimize service costs.

The students created a novel system that directs used water in the sink directly towards the five toilet tanks. With this solution, implemented since July 1, efficient use of water is ensured, and the monthly expense in paying for the service is reduced.
With the guidance of the teacher Patricia Medina Cervantes, The students complemented the project with an educational campaign aimed at their school community. Through teaching materials and theatrical presentations, they promoted the importance of caring for and reusing water, and fostered greater environmental awareness among their classmates and teachers.
The project is part of the XI edition of the national school contest “Gota de Oro”, organized by the National Superintendency of Sanitation Services (Sunass) in educational institutions nationwide, to guarantee access to safe water, its good use and environmentally responsible reuse.
