The district mayor of Cerro Colorado, Benigno Cornejo, defended that their children apply in the next regional and municipal elections within their political organization Arequipa Let’s move forward. The municipal official, who will also run for the provincial mayor’s office in Arequipa, said that new generations should be given way.
“It is necessary to renew the policy with young professionals and they have the option like any citizen. No one can remove the political blood that runs through his veins.” indicated the burgomaster to defend the candidacies of his descendants. He added that “they are well prepared.”
Among his sons listed as candidates are Fernando Benigno Cornejo-Pacheco, who is running as regional counselor. On the other hand, Frecia Alejandra Cornejo Pacheco will hold the position of alderman in Cerro Colorado. Both are running for the so-called ‘chicken store’ that her father founded.

Regarding the question of becoming a family party, Benigno Cornejo responded that there have been other cases in politics. He gave as an example the late former lieutenant governor and founder of United for the Great Change, Walter Gutierrez, whose daughter Kimmerlee Gutierrez was a councilor and has now taken over as governor. Also, his brother Kenny Jordy Gutierrez Canahuire He is a candidate for provincial councilor of Arequipa.
“That has happened in the regional government, with the governor and his daughter, at the national level and here there are several who have done it (…) but we cannot take away anyone’s political aspiration,” said the current mayor of Cerro Colorado.
