Yesterday morning, hundreds of artisanal fishermen from Matarani and Mollendo mobilized for the Caleta Centeno to face vessels from Quilca and other locations, under the argument of protecting the resource of the red hedgehog, which would be predicted and illegally extracted.
SITUATION
According to José Toledo, fishing leader, the mobilization would be 92 vessels and about 200 people, with the aim of defend the work zone that belongs to them. Toledo supported a local medium that these foreign vessels extract the resource disproportionately, when in Matarani the capture reaches 200 kilos per exit.
He held the recent resolution 0034-2025 of Produce, which opened the door to new extraction authorizations. “This is the fifth time that the fishermen of Matarani and Mollendo face Quilca and other areas, to preserve the resource”said.
In this regard, the Regional Production Manager of Arequipa, José Morales, explained that the resolution establishes a 395 tons share On the coast between honey and mollendo, provinces of Camaná and Islay, but the extraction goal for this year would have already been reached.
“The Ministry through the Supervision Directorate are also in monitoring. Management has raised the respective reports to Lima”he pointed out.
He also indicated that Fishermen have not yet presented their boat lists, So there is not the respective authorization.
