The director of Department of Social Prosperity, Gustavo Bolivarannounced that in 2025 the subsidies granted to thousands of families in Colombia will have significant modifications.
Some social programs face uncertainty due to recent budget cuts and the absence of a financing law. However, Bolívar assured that the subsidies Citizen Incomeaimed at mothers who are heads of household (line known as Care Assessment), older adults and the VAT refundthey will not be affected.

The announcement of the end of the program Colombia without Hunger has generated discontent among citizens, who had already expressed their concern about the budget cuts in 2024. This subsidy benefits the most vulnerable communities, but the president Gustavo Petro He stressed that the modifications are necessary for next year.
“The rest of the population until now subsidized: young people and poor parents with children over 6 years old, we invite them to set up productive cooperatives and receive credits for production,” said the president.

The elimination of the subsidy Colombia without Hunger has raised doubts about the continuity of the program Young Income in 2025. According to Bolívar, solutions are being explored to guarantee its sustainability.

Programs that will continue in 2025
Despite the adjustments, Bolívar confirmed that three lines of subsidies will continue to operate next year:
- Subsidy for Seniors: It will be expanded from 1.7 million to 2.8 million beneficiaries, with an increase in the amount, from $80,000 to $230,000.
- Care Income: Aimed at mothers who are heads of household with children under 6 years of age.
- VAT refund: Program that will remain unchanged.
“I announced: 3 transfer lines are maintained. For other people who join cooperatives, there will be loans with a subsidized rate by the DPS. It is the instruction that the government has given me,” Bolívar concluded on his social networks.
The adjustments in the social programs by 2025 show a change in the Government’s strategy to manage the subsidies. Although some programs will continue, the modifications create uncertainty and challenges for beneficiaries.
