Why is November 20 a holiday?
This November 20 marks the 112th anniversary of the start of the Mexican Revolution, which is why it is established as a holiday in the country. This movement, led by Francisco I. Madero, took up arms against President Porfirio Díaz, who had been in power for more than 30 years.
The historic event was celebrated unofficially in 1928 with a sporting event, a relay race, but until 1936 it gained national character through a Senate decree that established a parade where “the pacifist will and conciliator of the people.
Later, year after year, the beginning of the Mexican Revolution is commemorated with sporting events, in addition to the fact that it is a holiday, so classes are suspended.
