The Chirican cyclist Franklin Erasmo Archibold continues to show great ability and is now more motivated than ever. In which last weekend he managed to win both the individual time trial and the road test, Elite category, of the 2024 national championships, which took place in the province of Panama.
Archibold, nicknamed “the eagle” and who will be the representative of our country in the next Olympic Games in Paris, looked very dominant in both specialties, which had the road to Gamboa as their main stage.
On Friday, April 26, at the start of these pedal nationals, Archibold (Panama is Culture and Values) was able to complete the feat against the clock by negotiating the 35.8 kilometers of the route in 42 minutes and 53 seconds, being accompanied on the podium by Christofer Jurado from Chorrerano with 44:06 and Bolívar Espinosa, also from Chirica, who clocked 44:46 minutes.
This day against the clock also titled Felipe Chang (Panama is Culture and Values) in the U-23; Jahaziel Martínez, in the Youth category; Boris Caballero, in Prejuvenil; Armando Abaunza, in Master A; Alex Jorge, in Master B; Pablo Testa, in Master C.
In the female branch, Noemy Atencio, in Junior; Iris Frías, in Ladies A; Pamela Coulson, in Ladies B; Maraya López, in Sub-23; while Wendy Ducreux was crowned in the Elite.
On Saturday, the long-distance road test was run with 86 kilometers, with the starting and finishing point being the SENAFRONT entrance on the road to Gamboa, achieving her doubles in the Wendy Ducreux Women’s Elite; in the U-23 Maraya López; in ladies B, Pämela Coulson also did it; in addition to Iris López in the A. In the Junior ladies, the winner of the Saturday day was Ingrid Rodríguez.
Among the men, Boris Caballero achieved the double crown in Prejuvenile; at the same time that the road test in Master A was achieved by José Manuel Rodríguez; in Master B it was conquered by Alex Jorge; the Master C went to Sergio Castillo and the Youth to Carlos Jaén.
Yesterday, Sunday, the individual route was run for the U-23 and Elite men. In a spectacular closing, the gold medal in U-23 went to the Chirican Michael Caballero (Rali Giant) and the silver to his countryman Cristopher Vargas (Panama is Culture and Values) who completed the 99.8 kilometer route in 2 hours 30 minutes and 12 seconds. The bronze medal went to Kevin Almanza (Muro Sportivo) who arrived at 18 seconds.
For his part, Franklin Archibold once again took out his claws literally to hold on to the double of crowns by winning the Elite distance test alone, reaching the finish line alone and stopping the clock in 3 hours 13 minutes and 29 seconds, after the route of 150 kilometers, between the SENAFRONT entrance on the road to Gamboa, a double between Albrook and Chilibre and arrival at SENAFRONT.
The silver medals went to Pablo Vásquez from Chirica (Rali Giant) and the bronze to Christofer Jurado (Panama is Culture and Values), who finished the task with 3 hours 18 minutes and 16 seconds.
Franklin Archibold now and with his team Panamá es Cultura y Valores will face the Vuelta Bantrab in Guatemala between May 1 and 5, in addition to having as its main objective its performance in the Olympic Games on French soil.
