Arce proposes changes to eliminate "bad cops" and Commander Aguilera announces a "new command"

President Luis Arce Catacora reiterated this Tuesday, June 28, the need to a structural reform in the Police to eliminate the bad troops and that the population once again trusts the olive-green entity. ANDhe National Commander of the Police, Jhonny Aguilera, also referred to the issue and announced a new command.

“There are still some bad police officers who dirty the uniform with personal interests (…) Nwe find ourselves faced with the need for a new structural police reform, that not only enters the history books, but also shows the Bolivian population that the Police is changing and it is eliminating the bad elements, that are still in their ranks and that the old practices will be banished”, stated the president.

Catacora Maple participated this Tuesday in the act in commemoration of the 196 years of creation of the Bolivian Police. The Government Minister, Eduardo del Castillo, and other authorities also participated in this central act, which was ahead in the city of La Paz.

He pointed out that, of almost 40 thousand members of the Police, there are very few who are involved in criminal acts and that generate a bad image for the institution, to which he added the request to close the wounds caused by the conflicts of 2019, when, according to the president, there was “insubordination” and “indiscipline”.

Meanwhile, Aguilera expressed her loyalty to the Government of the day and also addressed the uniformed officers, whom she asked to act quickly and reminded them whate “one must not faint before calumnies”, in reference to the complaints against some members of the entity.

“There is nothing that can refute a job done with suitability, with perseverance. We must seek better days, not only for the institution, but for the entire people (…) I promise, on behalf of the Bolivian Police, to work together in the search for better days,” said the highest police authority.

In addition, he advanced the formation of a new Command. “We want to ratify that this modernization must not only be addressed by human talent, but also in infrastructure. We will begin that longed-for desire to build a new General Command (…) above all to make that infrastructure serve our population,” he said.

Police was created on June 24, 1826 by regulatory law issued by Marshal Antonio José de Sucre.

The olive green institution has the mission of defending society and maintaining public order, by complying with the laws in the national territory, but it has been blackened in recent months by the multiple corruption scandals and complaints that have it in the eye of criticism national.
