At the inauguration ceremony of the new military high command, President Luis Arce affirmed this Saturday that the presence of armed people in the road blockade carried out, for 13 days, by social organizations defending former President Evo Morales, has been verified.
The president stressed that “the right to peaceful protest is guaranteed; However, when it violates the collective rights of third parties, such as freedom of movement or circulation, it generates serious conflict in the country, affecting the vast majority of the inhabitants.”
“AND The most alarming thing is that in these blockades people have been found carrying military weapons.which put the life and safety of people at serious risk, which constitutionally obliges the government and institutions to guarantee the security of the State and public order, (in addition to) respect and the validity of the rule of law, democracy and social peace,” he said.
“Caring for and protecting the national economy is our fundamental mandate, ensuring that land communication routes are clear to avoid further damage that strangles the national productive apparatus,” he continued.
He also pointed out that, in the current situation of conflict, lsociety imperatively demands the governmentto the Armed Forces and other public institutions, to comply with “immediate tasks and actions in order to preserve the highest vital interests of the country, such as the security of the State and the restoration of public order.”
He added that the right to life of Bolivians is a constitutional and universal right, which obliges the State and its institutions to protect it.
“As a government we have made the greatest efforts to protect it and we will continue to do so as a priority for a human principle of the right and respect for life,” he said.
