Arce announces a Maternal Child and greater police presence in El Alto

Jorge Quispe / La Paz

After four years of absence of Evo Morales and one of Luis Arce, a Bolivian president participated in the honorary session of the city of El Alto on its 37th anniversary. President Arce announced yesterday the construction of a third-level hospital, a Maternal Child with all the specialties, also confirmed that there will be a greater police presence for citizen security in the giant city.

“The national government has seen the need to build a third-level hospital, a Pediatric Maternal and Child hospital in El Alto,” confirmed the head of state, to later be applauded by the authorities who gathered at a packed Municipal House. Although the city of El Alto has two third-level centers, the North and the South, many women still have to go to the Materno Infantil in the city of La Paz.

“I was talking with the sister mayor (Eva Copa) so that she can provide us with the land and thus start the construction of this hospital dedicated to our sisters from El Alto, so that they can have children with dignity,” added Arce, accompanied by vice president David Choquehuanca and Copa, who She wore an elegant El Alto chola outfit.

According to Arce, the project will cover the gap in health care for that city in the specialized services of obstetrics, pediatrics and neonatology. “We know that the brave women of El Alto were waiting for this Maternal and Child Hospital, that is why we want to announce it on this anniversary.”

The Government also plans to equip hospitals in the North and South. This package includes medical support, furniture, industrial equipment, waste treatment, surgical equipment, laboratory and other implements.

Earlier, Arce participated in the inauguration of the new Nuclear Medicine and Radiotherapy Center of El Alto in the Parcopata area, in District 8, which will serve 120 patients per day and 36,000 per year.

Arce anticipated the implementation of a potato processing plant with an investment of 160 million bolivianos and highways from the S’eqe and Seco rivers to Alto Lima and La Cumbre.

more police will arrive

In August, Copa demanded more police for El Alto from the Minister of Government, Eduardo del Castillo, and yesterday President Arce confirmed that he had already ordered it.

“On the other hand, the Minister of Government has been instructed to increase the number of police officers in El Alto,” Arce confirmed without giving details. Last year, the then regional police commander in that city, Óscar Ruiz, revealed that the number of officers in that city reached 1,800 for a 1.1 million population.

Arce added that after the implementation of the Barrio Seguro plan in districts 2, 7, 8 and 14, the second will be extended to the rest of the 14 districts of the city. Insecurity is a latent issue, because yesterday it was reported that a person died after the celebrations at the verbena and police confirmation was awaited.

The attack on the transition

During the honorary session, Copa announced the construction of three Kolla Utas (medicinal houses) or municipal pharmacies.

And when he referred to the subject, he alluded to the government of Jeanine Añez, which he called “de facto government”, despite the fact that she governed with the former president. “During the pandemic, a ‘de facto government’ entered a rigid quarantine and many people from El Alto lost their lives, because they did not have money to buy medicines, but now with these pharmacies we will give medicines to people who need them for free and sell them economically,” said the mayor.

He also announced the construction of two road distributors. A few hours before and in the Body of Christ Parish, in Villa Adela, where the mass for the anniversary was celebrated, the parish priest reminded him that they still keep the model of the Ratuki road plan, by the late Father Obermaier.

distinction in session

  • personalities In addition to President Luis Arce and Vice President David Choquehuanca, the Mayor’s Office honored Lieutenant Boris Gutiérrez, head of the Police Trafficking and Human Trafficking Division; Juan Carlos Gonzales, owner of the Alexander hotel; Maveric Mayta, chess champion; Joselin Camargo, athlete; Freddy Mamani, a designer of cholets, and Óscar Centeno, a spokesman wounded by a bullet in the eyebrow for helping a woman.
