Arbeleche spoke before the United Nations on finance for development, fiscal policies and social equity

Minister Azucena Arbeleche ended her tour of the United States with presentations on fiscal and social policies, and finance for development before the United Nations. Her visit to the northern country began last week in Washington DC, where she participated in the Spring Meetings of the World Bank (WB) and the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

During her visit to the United States, the minister held meetings with authorities from other governments, multilateral organizations, investors and representatives of the private sector.

She traveled accompanied by the director of Economic Policy, Marcela Bensión, and the director of the Debt Management Unit, Herman Kamil. In the United States, the representatives of Uruguay before the IMF, World Bank and Inter-American Development Bank, Inés Bustillo, Carolina Saizar and Santiago Cat, respectively, joined. The Uruguayan ambassador to that country, Andrés Durán, the ambassador to the United Nations Organization, Carlos Amorín, and his team of collaborators also supported the work of the delegation.

In Washington DC, Arbeleche chaired the Development Committee of the World Bank and IMF, a position that Uruguay holds for the first time. He also spoke at a webinar organized by the IMF on fiscal policies to support debt sustainability and social cohesion.

Then, in New York, he visited the United Nations headquarters, where he met with the UN Deputy Secretary General and President of the United Nations Group for Sustainable Development, Amina Mohammed.

There he spoke at the Finance for Development forum, in a panel whose objective was focused on the analysis of inclusive and sustainable recovery. Presidency
