Arbeleche announces the creation of 40,000 jobs and growth of the economy

This Monday, June 27, the Council of Ministers met with the task of defining the next Rendering of Accounts and Balance of Budget Execution that will be sent to Parliament in the coming days.

After the ministerial agreement, Arbeleche and the ministers Pablo da Silveira (Education), Pablo Mieres (Labor) and Luis Alberto Heber (Interior) gave a press conference.

Arbeleche announced that the next Rendering of Accounts will allocate resources to “strengthen educational transformation and citizen security, as well as to comply with the salary recovery of public officials.”

The Secretary of State highlighted the 4.4% growth of the economy in 2021, well above projections, an increase that was tied to the generation of jobs, and that almost all of the jobs lost due to of the Covid.

He also assured that in 2021 “poverty in Uruguay decreased by one percentage point, he said that resources were provided through the Covid Fund, and that despite the increased spending, the commitment not to increase taxes was maintained.”

40,000 new jobs

On the other hand, Arbeleche said that in the first quarter of 2022 the economy in Uruguay grew, compared to the same quarter of the previous year, more than 8%.

In this sense, the economic team projects growth for this year of 4.8%, one percentage point above what it projected in February, this increase “will bring about the creation of some 40,000 jobs.”

Regarding a possible reduction of the Personal Income Tax (IRPF) and Social Security Assistance (IASS), he assured that “the commitment is still valid”, but it is necessary to wait until June 30, when deliver the Surrender to Parliament.

For his part, Mieres referred to salary recovery and said that the government is developing the final stages of a dialogue with the education unions and representatives of the Confederation of Organizations of State Officials (COFE).

Mieres assured that the recovery “has already begun” and the government’s will to comply with what was agreed is “clear.”
