Aquino gives Licey fourth consecutive victory

He hit two home runs and drove in five runs against the Giants. Cibaeñas Eagles and Oriental Stars win

Arístides Aquino came out of an offensive slump last night by hitting two homers and driving in five runs to lead the Tigres del Licey to victory 10-8 against the Gigantes del Cibao, during a match held at the Julián Javier Stadium in San Francisco de Macorís.

For the Tigers it was their fourth win in a row. Aquino, who entered the game with just three hits in 30 at-bats (according to the Licey’s press release), led a Licey’s first five-run rally early in the game with his first three-run homer. In the seventh he sealed his great offensive night with another stick, this time two rounds to give the Blues an advantage again, who were losing 6-5.

Ronny Mauricio was also a valuable piece for Licey, which has a record of 11-3 to continue firmly at the top of the 2022-2023 autumn-winter tournament, hitting 3-5, including two doubles and two RBIs. Instead, the Giants relied on three homers by Tito Polo, Carlos Peguero and Carlos Paulino, which totaled seven runs.

The win went to Nate Pearson (1-0), who pitched one inning of one-hit, two-strikeout relief. The defeat fell to Huáscar Brazobán (0-1), who allowed the two runs that gave the Blues the advantage.

Whitewashed for the Bulls

In La Romana, the Águilas Cibaeñas stopped a three-game losing streak last night by beating the Toros del Este 3-0 in a match held at the Francisco Micheli Stadium. The Eagles had three runs, two in the third inning after a double by Cade Gotta and a single by Jerar Encarnación, while in the ninth Ramón Torres hit a sacrifice fly and drove in the third.

It was the ninth victory of those led by José Leger against six defeats, which placed them, again in second place in the standings, while for the Bulls it was their second setback in a row and number 12 in the entire tournament to keep them in the last place.

The victory went to Jesse Scholtens (2-0), the defeat to Raúl Valdés (0-1) and the save corresponded to Richard Rodríguez, the sixth of the tournament.

The stars are still hot

The Eastern Stars increased their winning streak to three by defeating the Leones del Esgido 5-4 in a match held at the Quisqueya Stadium. Luis Campusano was the All-Star hero when he hit a sacrifice fly that broke a 4-4 tie in the seventh inning against reliever Aneurys Zabala (0-1), who took the loss.

Instead, the victory went to fellow reliever Gregory Santos (1-0) and the rescue went to Diógenes Almengó, the first in the championship. The victory allows the team with the green banner to equalize in third position with the Cibao Giants (8-7). Aderlin Rodríguez was the player with the best performance for the Scarlets, hitting a home run in the sixth inning to tie the actions at four runs apiece.
