Given the situation of violence in some departments of Colombia and the increase in refugees arriving in Venezuela, GD Daniel Alfonso Galarraga Torres, commander of the Comprehensive Defense Operational Zone (Zodi) 31 Apure, highlighted that “the plan must be administered and guarantee the governor of the state, who will determine which shelters could be used in case of people displaced by the conflict.”
He clarified that, so far, the clashes between armed groups in Catatumbo, specifically in the north of Santander, have not generated displacements towards the Apure state. “The conflicts are more than sixty kilometers from our border and have not affected our territory,” he stated.
The commander also stressed that the situation in the state is completely calm, thanks to constant patrol plans and the implementation of security at border points. “The Bolivarian National Armed Forces guarantee the peace and tranquility of our neighbors,” he added.
Galarraga called on Colombians seeking refuge in Venezuela, recalling that “Venezuela’s policy has always been humanist, receiving displaced people from any part of the world without xenophobia.” He highlighted that the nation has been a home for diverse cultures throughout history.
General Galarraga reaffirmed the commitment of the Bolivarian National Armed Forces to meet the needs of the population and guarantee security in the Apure state. “The homeland of Bolívar and Chávez is ready to support and help all Venezuelans and refugees who arrive in our lands,” he concluded, emphasizing the importance of solidarity and peace in the region.
