In the next period of sessions, the Senate has among its urgent tasks to review and approve the Strategic Justice Plan that the head of the Attorney General’s Office (FGR), Ernestina Godoy, must present by law to that Chamber.
The president of the Legislative Studies Commission, the senator from Morena, Enrique Inzunza Cázarez, commented that the prosecutor was committed to this since her appearance last November and is sure that she will soon present this programmatic instrument of the country’s criminal prosecution policy at the federal level.
He stressed that this is a relevant document “in the second government of the Fourth Transformation, which seeks to consolidate a Welfare State, with as much social and penal policy as possible and necessary,” and detailed that the guiding axes of the plan are established in article 88 of the Organic Law of the FGR.
Senator Inzunza explained that there is no specific deadline for Prosecutor Godoy to submit this plan to the Senate, since article 88 only states that she will present it “at the beginning of her administration, although she is surely already working on it.”
The member of the Justice Commission explained that this section determines the programmatic route that the plan must contain, with institutional strategies, objectives, medium, short and long-term goals, as well as research priorities for the efficiency and effectiveness of criminal prosecution.
It should also detail “the different analyzes of crime incidence, situational diagnoses, reports on the situation of victims of crime, human rights violations and official statistics on citizens’ perception of violence.”
Likewise, “the opinion issued by the Citizen Council, as well as the observations of the institutions of justice and public security, with prior request made by the person head of the FGR.”
Inzunza asserted that it is a “reliable analysis” that will allow us to know the state of said body.
Asked about the reason why the previous head of the FGR, Alejandro Gertz Manero, never presented said Strategic Justice Procurement Plan, the senator commented that “now it is time for another management” in which prosecutor Godoy herself expressed her decision to present that document, as well as to form the Citizen Council of the Prosecutor’s Office.
