Fracking has been a controversial issue in recent years in Colombia, especially after former President Iván Duque promised that this technique would not be carried out in the country, but then his government endorsed the pilots to assess the social and environmental impacts to develop the fracturing in the future.

Faced with this, the Petro executive was emphatically against this technique that allows extracting shale gas, a type of hydrocarbon that is found in rock layers at great depth, although for the moment it has not advanced any legislative measures to stop the exploration projects that are already underway.

We did it. The prohibition of ‘fracking’ and unconventional deposits is approved in plenary session of the Senate. This is the real change, we protect life, nature, water. Rivers will never be dynamited to extract oil. Live life!“said the wayú senator.

After receiving the green light from the Senate, the project will have to go through two other debates in the House of Representatives.

The controversy of ‘fracking’ comes from the need to drill the earth for later inject large amounts of water mixed with chemicals at high pressure to fracture the rock and release the gas, something that according to environmentalists would have a great impact on the environment.
