The President of the Republic, Luis Lacalle Pou, has an approval of 35% of Uruguayans, according to the most recent measurement of the Citizen Perception Plant (UPC) of the University of the Republic (UDELAR).
The amount of the population that gives him support has been falling in several of the surveys and measurements that have been carried out in recent months, more pronouncedly in the following months after the mega-case of Alejandro Astesiano, former custodian of the president accused as ringleader, broke out. of a network selling false passports.
In the survey carried out by the UPC, carried out between November 25 and 29, it was found that the former presidential bodyguard had a strong negative impact on the image of the right-wing president: when they were asked if the events related to this case had affected in the image of Lacalle Pou, 52% said that, indeed, there was an impact and that it was negative. 37% said that it did not impact positively or negatively, 7% answered that it had a positive influence and 4% did not know or did not answer.
Regarding approval, only 35% of people stated that they continue to give support to the president’s management, a drop of five percentage points compared to the same measurement made last October. 43% disapprove of his administration, 18% neither approve nor disapprove and 4% do not know or answer.
Higher quintiles approve more
The different socioeconomic strata have different concepts about the management of the president. Among the people higher up the pyramid, those with high incomes, 45% agree with the president and his way of governing.
In those of medium socioeconomic level, only 32% approve, while in those of the low stratum, only 28% shake hands with the government. The highest level of disapproval is found among those with a medium level, with 46%.
