The approval of Luis Lacalle Pou at the head of the government was reduced by 5 percentage points, standing at 46%, according to a measurement presented by Consultants Option Thursday on the news Telenoche.

“After 27 months of management, the national government registers a 46% favorable evaluation and an approval gap of +17 points. Compared to the previous quarter, there was a 5-point drop in approval and an increase of 7 points in disapproval,” says the opinion measurement company.

Of that global 46%, 14% consider the way the president’s government is managed to be “very good”, while 32% rate it as “good”.

22% of those surveyed said that it is “neither good nor bad”.

At the other extreme, 15% said that it is “bad” and 14% that it is “very bad”, adding up to 29%.

“Considering the historical series of this government period (2020-2022), the government is close to its approval floor, registered in the third quarter of 2021. In addition, there is a drop of five points compared to the last two quarters, in which the government had reached a 51% favorable evaluation. Meanwhile, the 30% disapproval registered this quarter is the highest figure in the historical series. Therefore, the current quarter is the one with the smallest positive gap between government approval and disapproval, ”said the pollster in her summary.

“Only the first government of Tabaré Vázquez and the administration of José Mujica had a positive approval gap at this point in the management cycle, as is the case with the current government led by President Lacalle Pou. There is, on the other hand, a substantive difference between the current figures and those corresponding to the second Vázquez administration. According to our Public Opinion Monitor of June 2017 (that is, also in a mid-term context), 24% approved of Dr. Vázquez’s administration (22 points less than the current approval) and 43 % disapproved of it (13 points more than current records)”, they explained by way of comparison.

Option analyzed that quarter by quarter “the view of the government is strongly conditioned by the sympathies and political preferences of Uruguayans” and found that “among those who voted for parties of the ruling coalition in the last presidential elections of 2019, almost 8 of each of 10 approve of government work and less than 1 in 20 disapproves. The records are radically different within the Frente Amplio electorate, where 6 out of 10 citizens disapprove of the administration and where 1 out of 10 approves it”.

The report also says that “the data suggest a double process that occurred this quarter: a segment of the pro-government electorate that previously approved of the government now had a neutral evaluation and another segment (in this case, the Frente Amplio members) that now held a neutral evaluation. joined the segment of those who disapprove of the management”.
