Application process begins for positions of attorney general and ombudsman

The Preliminary Committee for the Evaluation of Nominations for the appointment of members of the Citizen Power, announced that starting Monday the requirements for candidates for attorney general of the Republic and ombudsman will be published.

The president of the Committee, deputy Giuseppe Alessandrello, reported that this Friday the Commission was installed to review applications from the Citizen Power. He indicated that during the day the appointment of the board of directors was made and the operating regulations of said body were executed and announced that the process of receiving documents for applicants will begin on Monday, March 2 until next March 9.

He added that on Monday, March 2, the requirements for applicants to present the documents, which will be analyzed and evaluated, will be published in 3 national newspapers and on all networks of the National Assembly, so that they can later be included in the list of candidates before the plenary session of the National Assembly.

For his part, the vice president of the Committee, deputy Bernabé Gutiérrez, addressed Venezuelans to ask them to go “with all confidence to those who seek the position of Attorney General of the Republic or Defender. Let them come and apply. This committee is made up of deputies who have a commitment to democracy, to the new generations, to the history of the country,” he said.

He pointed out that due to the moment that Venezuela is experiencing, “the institutions must be guarantees of total transparency and this Committee appointed in recent days by the Legislative Branch chaired by Dr. Jorge Rodríguez, has that commitment, especially with our own conscience, especially with the democratic system of the country and we know that we must have transparency in this entire process dedicated to this Committee, to select the men and women who can apply for this position and once the entire process is completed, we will present it to the Legislative Branch to according to the Constitution of the Republic of “Venezuela, ultimately appoint the Attorney General of the Republic and the Ombudsman.”

The Preliminary Nominations Committee

The Preliminary Nomination Evaluation Committee is made up of the following deputies: Giuseppe Alessandrello (president), Bernabé Gutiérrez (vice president), Rodbexa Poleo, Gloria Castillo, Willy Medina, Carlos Mogollón, Carolina García, Roy Daza, José Oscar Villarroel, Pablo Pérez, Julio Hernández, Antonio Ecarri and Luis Augusto Romero.

It is worth remembering that on February 25, the Attorney General of the Republic, Tarek William Saab, and the Ombudsman, Alfredo Ruíz, sent letters communications to the leadership of the National Assembly putting their respective positions in order.

Both senior officials had been appointed by the Venezuelan parliament after a credentials competition was called in October 2024.

After the communications were made known, the lawyer Larry Daniel Davoe Márquez, who is a specialist in Human Rights, was appointed as the prosecutor in charge and Tarek William Saab as the Ombudsman in charge.
