The general secretary of APP, Luis Valdéz, declared this Monday, December 8, that the eventual candidacy for the Senate of Juan José Santiváñez remains under evaluation, and that its incorporation is not yet official. Valdez explained that the fifth place on the senatorial list is reserved for a “guest” and that Santiváñez “You have great options.”
“The number five for the national Senate is reserved for a guest. (And Mr. Santiváñez?) He is within the process, within the evaluation. I believe he has great options. Finally it is about gaining the trust of the population and also of the party,” declared the general secretary of APP for RPP.
The former Minister of the Interior and Justice had announced in October his intention to run for a seat in the Senate with APP. Asked about this announcement, Valdez He indicated that the nomination cannot be confirmed because the political committee is still reviewing profiles and circumstances before closing the final list. In that sense, he recalled that the party still has deadlines to formalize its candidacies before the electoral bodies and that any guest must go through a prior internal evaluation.

“(Is it certain that he is the guest?) The space is still blank, he has the great possibility of being invited. (Isn’t it a fact then?) In politics until the plates and lists are registered and recognized by the electoral system… (So, who could be the guest?) There are still days, time and deadlines. He has the first option and finally it will be the situations, the circumstances, the facts that finally determine his registration or not,” said Luis Valdez in RPP.
Juan Santiváñez is prevented from leaving the country
Regarding the legal situation of Santiváñez, who faces a tax investigation and is prevented from leaving the country for 18 months, Valdez maintained that many of the investigations are “in preliminary condition or archived” and that at the moment there is no judicial determination that prevents a possible application. He also stressed that APP usually considers different factors before including a guest, including their career, situation and possible political effects.
“What I have read and reviewed is that his investigations that he had when he was minister were in the preliminary phase, many of them have already been archived. The report that the party has provided is that today at least it has no major responsibility, beyond some reports and complaints, but finally that continues its process,” he said.
