The National Port Authority (APN) granted the Technical Technical Viability Port (VTTP) to the project of the Corío megaportin Arequipa, in charge of the Hub Corio Megapuerto del Sur Consortium. The authorization, with a validity of three years, will allow to develop the studies of engineering, environmental impact and economic analysis, necessary to evaluate its final viability.
The Consortium, composed of Leet Architecture Engineering & Construction SAC and Beton Terra Ingenieros SAC, obtained the approval after raising 25 technical observations previously presented. The updated master plan was admitted to the APN on August 1.
Located in the district of Punta de Bombón, province of Islay, Corío is a 100% private project, under the same scheme used in the port of Chancay.
The megaproject is part of the National Port Plan for Port Development and National Port Policy, aimed at decentralizing the maritime activity of Callao and expanding the logistics capacity of the country. Among its technical advantages, a natural batimetry of 28 meters, greater than 17.9 meters from Chancay, which would facilitate the beans of large -draft ships, including the Ultra Large Container Vessels.
The estimated capacity exceeds 100 million annual metric tons, more than triple the projection for Chancay. The infrastructure will cover 15,947 hectares, of which 1,127 will be allocated to the port and the rest to logistics, industrial and road areas. It will be a multimodal complex, connected with maritime, land, rail and air transport, with access to the interoceanic road and the possibility of a support airport.
Investments
In its first stage, the estimated investment amounts to US $ 7,140 million, according to proinversion. The project could open a new export route for Brazil and Bolivia to Asia, reducing times and costs compared to the routes through the Atlantic and the Panama Canal.
Although an investor has not yet been secured, four Chinese companies have shown interest and the Regional Government of Arequipa has sought to attract US capital, with efforts to the United States embassy and meetings with businessmen from that country.
