The president of the Panamanian Association of Business Executives (Apede), Elisa Suárez, referred to the issue of the revocation of the lifting of the criminal electoral jurisdiction of former President Ricardo Martinelli and assured that this figure should not exist.
During a press conference, in which the union called on the Government of the President of the Republic Laurentino Cortizo to act in the face of the various problems that affect the country and thus avoid street closures by carriers, workers and others sectors of the country, Suárez said that the criminal jurisdiction must be eliminated, so this issue will be brought before the next table of the National Electoral Reform Commission for analysis.
“We have been against the criminal jurisdiction, it is nothing new, the magistrates themselves have been against the criminal jurisdiction, the criminal jurisdiction was a proposal at the last table of the National Electoral Reform Commission, it is not because of today’s ruling , is that criminal jurisdiction should not exist, simply and simply should not exist, let’s not allow spaces for this type of thing to occur, of course we will have to delve into these issues but criminal jurisdiction must be eliminated and we will do it again bring to the next table of the National Electoral Reform Commission”, said the businesswoman.
The decision to lift former President of the Republic Ricardo Martinelli from electoral criminal jurisdiction was revoked by the Electoral Tribunal on March 23.
The former president continues to maintain criminal jurisdiction, which means that he cannot be tried.
During the press conference this morning, Suárez also urged the unionized workers in the Single National Union of Construction and Similar Workers (Suntracs) to desist from the strike call agreed for next April 4.
