Fifteen of the 25 regional governors, some mayors, businessmen, deans of professional associations and representatives of churches and civil society issued a statement within the framework of the APECwhich this year has as host to Perufor a climate of peace for development and competitiveness in the country.
The Presidency of Peru shared, through ‘X’ (formerly Twitter) a statement from these unions and organizations regarding the announcements of demonstrations between November 11 and 17 in our country.
“Peru is experiencing a transcendental moment in the history of trade relations, within the framework of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum (APEC), by hosting the central meetings that will bring together dignitaries, senior officials and business delegations from the 21 economies that comprise it; being a great opportunity to put the potential of our country in the eyes of the world,” they express in the statement.
In that sense, they call on the various actors from the three levels of government, civil society, the political class, the private sector and academia, to join in a joint look at the country.
They also mention that positions that seek to generate instability and that could “affect the image of Peru and delay the growth possibilities of entrepreneurs, MSEs, industries, workers and students” must be put aside.
Likewise, they indicate that it is the duty of all Peruvians to generate conditions of stability and social peace to strengthen unity and accelerate the path to economic reactivation. “At the same time, we must reaffirm and strengthen the validity of the rule of law to achieve a prosperous country in the bicentennial of our independence,” they point out.
Finally, they expressed their deep respect for freedom of expression and peaceful protest; However, they urged “civil society in general to avoid actions that affect the normal development of official activities scheduled during the dates of APEC“.
