The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Elmer Schialerconfirmed that the presidents of the United States and China, Joe Biden and Xi Jinpingwill arrive in Lima on Thursday, November 14 to participate in the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC). The US president will arrive in the capital that day at night on Air Force One, where he will then meet with the head of state Dina Boluarte.
APEC It will take place this week, from November 11 to 16, where the participation of the largest economies that are part of the Asia Pacific alliance is expected. In addition, Schiarler reported that, both Biden as Jinpingthey will hold separate meetings with the president of the republic, Dina Boluarte Zegarra.
As for the Chinese president, his participation in APEC will be after a state visit to Peru, immediately afterwards he will virtually inaugurate the Chancay megaport located in the north of Lima, along with Boluarte Zegarra. The inauguration will be carried out remotely by decision of the Chinese government because, according to their country’s policy, they cannot inaugurate in person a work that is not yet finished. On the side of BidenChancellor Elmer Schialer mentioned that, together with Boluarte, “bilateral issues” will be discussed.
“Among the multiple meetings, President (Joe) Biden and President (Dina) Boluarte will sit down to discuss bilateral issues. A very busy agenda, a significant number of North American and Peruvian officials will be present at the meeting,” he expressed.
What countries and international presidents will come to Peru for APEC 2024?
Peru will be the headquarters of the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) which will take place from November 11 to 19 and will receive economic leaders from the Asia Pacific region. So far, according to Foreign Minister Elmer Schialer, 20 of 21 representatives have confirmed their participation in the summit. These are the presidents who will attend the APEC:
- USA: President Joe Biden will attend the summit and will arrive in Lima on Thursday, November 14.
- Canada: Prime Minister Justin Trudeau confirmed his participation through the Canadian embassy’s social networks.
- China: President Xi Jinping will also attend APEC and inaugurate the Chancay megaport remotely with President Dina Boluarte.
- Singapore: Prime Minister Lawrence Wong confirmed his participation in the APEC summit.
- Malaysia: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim also confirmed his participation for APEC.
- South Korea: President Yoon Suk-yeol will attend the summit and his country will host APEC 2025.
- Brunei Darussalam: Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah arrived in Peru in the morning to participate in APEC.
- Vietnam: President To Lam will also participate in the summit after making an official visit to Peru.
