President Dina Boluarte said at the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum 2024, that it is relevant to give more emphasis to the economic cooperation and investment among the countries of the region. However, those were not the only words he had, but he highlighted his request for “less fragmentation”, which is quite contradictory due to how he has treated social demands and his response to the protests.
“The Forum can contribute today to the strengthening of multilateral cooperation, in particular in that the different challenges we have been facing increase the levels of uncertainty towards the immediate future. We need greater collaboration and understanding and less fragmentation,” were his words.
Likewise, she mentioned being convinced that inclusion is key to achieving economic growth and that this was going to be a product of empowering people.
“To move towards solid, balanced, safe, sustainable and inclusive growth, it is crucial to conceive growth as an integral process. The attributes of growth cannot be conceived in isolation,” said President Boluarte.
In that same context, he pointed out that this year the roadmap for an economic formality was approved that will put key areas first with the support of the public and private sectors.
“We understand economic formality as a door to integrate into a positive economic dynamic, which allows them to access minimal social and labor benefits, promoting the enjoyment of rights to which we in Peru are absolutely committed,” he expressed.
PNP Orchestra surprises with huaynos amid protests during the APEC in San Borja
Near a protest in the San Borja district, members of the Peruvian National Police (PNP) band performed huaynos, generating a peculiar reaction among the protesters. Instead of becoming discouraged, the citizens present began to dance to the music, while holding banners and posters with critical messages towards the Government of Dina Boluarte and demanding justice for the deaths that occurred during the 2021 protests.
The event took place at the intersection of Aviación and Javier Prado avenues, in front of the main headquarters of the APEC 2024 Forum. At this point, a group of protesters and a large police contingent were concentrated. A short distance away, members of the PNP band, armed with bass drums, cymbals and trumpets, offered a performance of various traditional pieces of Peruvian music.
