The leader César Apaza is still “bedridden” and without receiving “specialized” medical attention after being transferred in March from the Hospital de Clínicas to the Chonchocoro prison, according to complaints by his lawyers and his family. The cocalero faces two processes, one for the seizure of the Adepcoca headquarters and another filed by a lieutenant for serious injuries who was later identified as Apaza’s aggressor.

“He has not received any physiotherapy session and the conditions in which he is found are precarious. Every day his state of health is declining and the medicines are covered by his family. He has difficulty breathing and is highly depressed because he cannot move,” lawyer Evelin Cossio told this outlet.

The defense requested that specialists be admitted, but only a doctor would have checked the vital signs. Now they wait for a second hospital transfer to be approved. On Friday, the director of the Penitentiary Regime, Juan Carlos Limpias, affirmed that Apaza received all the necessary attention.

Gloria Apaza, sister of the detained leader, questioned Limpias and said that his brother is not receiving adequate care.

The Ombudsman established that Apaza was the victim of cruel and degrading treatment during his arrest. This week the defense will file a criminal complaint against the police officers who inflicted injuries on the leader.
