Anzoátegui prosecutor arrested for refusing to prosecute four people arrested in protests

Tarek William Saab, the prosecutor appointed by the defunct constituent assembly, announced that the lawyer Maglen Marín Rodríguez, who served as Provisional Prosecutor of the Sixth Prosecutor’s Office of the Judicial District of that entity, will be prosecuted for the crime of intentional delay or omission of duties.


The prosecutor tax by the extinct constituent assembly, Tarek William Saab reported that the fifth and ninth prosecutors of the state of Anzoátegui will charge the lawyer Maglen Marín Rodríguez, who served as Provisional Prosecutor of the Sixth Prosecutor’s Office of the Judicial District of that entity. He asserted that she will be prosecuted for the crime of intentional delay or omission of duties.

The official explained that Marín Rodríguez failed to prosecute four individuals, who were identified in an investigation carried out by the Scientific, Criminal and Criminal Investigation Corps (CICPC) as having committed the crimes of terrorism, financing of terrorism, inciting hatred and criminal association.

The citizens were subsequently prosecuted under the intervention of another appointed prosecutor. They are Alfenis José La Rosa González, José Eduardo Malavé Rondón, Luis Antonio Bericote Malavé and Edén de Jesús Naranjo Monasterios, who were prosecuted by the Ninth Prosecutor’s Office of the state of Anzoátegui.

The prosecutor said that “these terrorists were part of the so-called commandos of the Sotillo municipality.”

He added that they were responsible for the acts of vandalism that occurred in the municipality of Sotillo, they financed a group of motorcyclists and actively participated in the riots and acts of violence that took place after the recent presidential elections.

On Saturday, August 3, during a rally in Miraflores, Nicolás Maduro said that more than 2,000 people have been arrested and that they will receive the “maximum punishment.” He stressed that there will be no forgiveness, “this time there will be Tocorón.”

In this regard, Maduro said that the opposition regrouped around a global plan, “they are intolerance. Unfortunately, there is a part of society that had to see to believe, that saw the criminal attack and the groups hired to attack hospitals, universities and schools.”
