Anvisa and Inmetro action monitors carnival products in DF and BA

In a note, Anvisa informed that, in the Federal District and Bahia, health surveillance work will be aimed at monitoring and providing guidance on the use of ointments and pastes for styling hair and on the consumption of alcoholic beverages.

Specifically in Salvador, a team made up of four representatives from municipal health surveillance and four from state surveillance inspects beauty salons in shopping malls to check the regularity of the hair ointments.

In the afternoon, the team works with trancistas in public spaces in the capital of Bahia that are popular with revelers.

Inmetro will inspect costumes and props; carnival accessories (tiaras, glasses, masks and toys); as well as condoms.

The initiative is coordinated by the Ministry of Development, Industry, Commerce and Services, in partnership with the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock.

What will be checked

In the case of toys, the teams check the presence of the Inmetro conformity identification seal and compliance with basic safety requirements.

In relation to costumes and other textile products, compliance with mandatory labeling rules will be checked, such as information on composition, manufacturer or importer, country of origin and conservation instructions.

In the case of beverages, the teams check storage conditions, regularity of registration when applicable, mandatory labeling and compliance with health regulations.

In relation to hair ointments, the regularization of the product with Anvisa, compliance with labeling information, indication of mode of use and possible restrictions will be monitored, in addition to appropriate conditions of exposure and marketing.

As for male condoms, the presence of the Inmetro seal will be observed, as well as their authenticity.

In the case of electronic smoking devices (DEFs), there will be specific supervision to prevent the sale of the product, the sale of which is prohibited in Brazil.

In a statement, Inmetro informed that the irregularities identified will be dealt with in accordance with the specific legislation of each body, “within the established technical and legal procedures”.

Guidelines

Among the guidelines published by the federal government and aimed at revelers are:

  • verify the presence of the Inmetro conformity identification seal on products that require compulsory certification, such as toys and male condoms;
  • check the mandatory information on packaging and labels, including identification of the manufacturer or importer, composition, instructions for use and expiration date;
  • make sure that products subject to health surveillance, such as cosmetics and condoms, are duly regularized with Anvisa;
  • observe appropriate storage and display conditions;
  • check the beverage registration with the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock;
  • avoid purchasing products without clear identification or whose sale is prohibited in the country, such as electronic smoking devices (EDFs).
