Antonio Marte calls for arresting those who rent houses to illegal Haitians

Antonio Marte pide apresar a quienes alquilen casas a ilegales haitianos

Santo Domingo.- Senator for the province of Santiago Rodriguez suggested on Wednesday that any Dominican who rents houses to illegal Haitians be seized from their homes and arrested, and warned that if drastic measures are not taken to confront illegal immigration, within 15 years the president will be from Haiti.

Antonio Marte complained that, he said, in many places, Dominicans are being outnumbered by Haitians.

“The first thing the director of Immigration should do is take away the house and put in jail anyone who rents a home to a Haitian who is not legal. In 15 years we will have a Haitian president, you will see it, I want to be alive, in many places there are already three Dominicans and five Haitians,” he said.

He recommended granting a permit to builders to be able to employ Haitian workers, because “those people have taken jobs away from Dominicans.”

“I don’t know what we are going to do with the Haitians we have in our country. I am not surprised that they are picketing the Palace, because I said that many Haitian women are marrying Dominicans. This has caused them to take the health budget,” said the congressman in the Senate session.

He added that the situation has worsened because “with what is paid to one Dominican, three Haitians are hired.

“Let’s pay attention to the Haitian issue, because we are going to be screwed,” the legislator insisted.
