Antonio Marte advocates a change in the vehicle fleet and an increase in Bonogas

The National Confederation of Transport Organizations (conatra) rejected this Tuesday the increase in the price of the ticket as some operators have arranged, while proposing the immediate replacement of vehicles that use fuels electrical fossils.

Antonio Marte, president of the entity, stated that the fund of more than seven billion pesos that drivers have saved by charging two pesos in fuels, and managed by the Ministry of Finance, must be used to change the transport vehicle fleet.

The driver leader understands that the increase in the price of the fuels it is a negative situation of world order that has effects in all the consuming countries of fuels, especially in the transport sector.

He considered that Bonogas should be expanded in terms of the number of beneficiaries, so that this social aid reaches a greater number of transporters and operators of routes in the concho, increasing its economic coverage from RD$3,500 to RD$5,000 during a provisional period. of three months, as a minimum, using the funds from the collection estimated in article number 20 of law number 253-12.

He highlighted that the government is interested in and is working on modernizing the passenger land transport system and on executing a macro and modern plan for electric mobility, mainly for the benefit of users and operators of this public service.

“That is why our organization and its affiliated companies call on the government of President Luis Abinader, to offer special incentives to the passenger transport sector in our country, in order to accelerate compliance with the National Electric Mobility Strategy and the replacement of short-route vehicles with state-of-the-art buses and vehicles electrical”, indicated the also legislator.

He added that with the substitution, “the national cost of the oil bill will be significantly reduced, eliminating pressure on the national trade balance and drastically reducing the costs of passenger and cargo transport services.”

He clarified that the proposal he makes does not imply new investments by the State, but rather the use of the drivers’ own resources.

Said government The Dominican will only have to assume the sacrifice of moderately lowering taxes on electric vehicles that would be imported and releasing as a guarantee for this project, part of the funds belonging to the country’s passenger and cargo transport sector, which have been collected since 2012 at the date, through article number 20 of Law number 253-12, on Strengthening the State’s Collection Capacity for Fiscal Sustainability and Sustainable Development and through article 20 of Law 63-17, on Mobility, Land Transportation, Traffic and Road Safety of the Dominican Republic.

the president of conatra suggested that over the next three months the government and the transport sector agree on a proposal to develop a comprehensive program that allows the change to electric vehicles of five thousand cars or light vehicles that operate on the routes of passenger transport and taxis in the national territory.

For the implementation of the initiative, he explained that the Dominican State must assume 50% of the cost of these vehicle units as a guarantee of payment, through a trust created with the funds established for these purposes by article 20 of law number 253-12 , On the Strengthening of the Collection Capacity of the State for Fiscal Sustainability and Sustainable Development.
