MIAMI, United States. — The CTE Antonio Guiteras thermoelectric plant, in the province of Matanzas, went out of service this Thursday, according to the Cuban Electric Union (UNE) in social networks.
The report indicates that the plant, one of the largest of its kind in the country, left the national electrical system (SEN) this afternoon due to an electrical failure in the use of a plant.
The UNE explains that the operators of the thermoelectric plant are working to guarantee its reentry to the SEN, which “will be informed in a timely manner.”
As a result of Guiteras going out of service, a deficit of 202 MW is forecast during peak hours.
In addition to the Matanzas thermoelectric plant, units 6 and 7 of the CTE Mariel (Artemisa), unit 4 of the CTE Nuevitas (Camagüey) and unit 2 of the CTE Felton (Holguín) are out of service due to failure.
Likewise, unit 1 of the CTE Felton and units 4 and 6 of the CTE Renté (Santiago de Cuba) are under maintenance.
According to the UNE, the availability of the SEN at 2:00 p.m. was 2,435 MW and the demand was 2,004 MW, with the entire system with service.
To guarantee generation during peak hours, unit 2 of Energas Boca de Jaruco will enter, which provides 30 MW, and unit 6 of Energas Boca de Jaruco is expected to be completed, with another 60 MW.
The entry of unit 4 of Energas Varadero is also expected, which will deliver 20 MW to the SEN.
“With this forecast, an availability of 2,588 MW and a maximum demand of 2,720 MW are estimated for the peak hour, for a deficit of 132 MW, so if the forecast conditions are maintained, an affectation to the service is forecast during this 202 hours. MW”, concludes the UNE report.
