The Angels. Antonio Banderas will play “a very small role, almost a cameo” in the film “Indiana Jones 5”, whose premiere is scheduled for June 30, 2023, the Spanish actor advanced this Tuesday in an interview with Collider, a specialized digital portal At the cinema.
«My role is very small, almost a cameo. It’s just a friend of Indiana Jones that he seeks out because he needs something from him in the plot. My appearance lasts a very short time », specified Banderas, who added that he is also « very happy » to be part of a saga that « is already the history of cinema ».
His signing for the iconic action-adventure franchise was announced last year, when the release date was still scheduled for July 2022.
Fifteen years after “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull”, the film marks the return of Harrison Ford in the skin of the mythical archaeologist along with a main cast made up of other figures such as Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Mads Mikkelsen, Boyd Holbrook , Shaunette Renée Wilson or Thomas Kretschmann.
Banderas considered that Harrison is “a gentleman on and off the set”: “I have to say that I had a great time with Harrison. I shared some dinners with him and a little time together and… what a gentleman!».
“Indiana Jones 5”, without an official title and whose plot has not yet been revealed, will be the first film in the saga that will not be directed by Steven Spielberg, who this time will be in charge of the production sponsored by the Lucasfilm studio (The Walt Disney Company).
James Mangold will direct the film from a script he wrote with Jez Butterworth and John-Henry Butterworth.
In addition, the composer John Williams will once again be able to create the soundtrack for this film whose song “Helena’s Theme” was already anticipated on September 4 during one of his summer concerts at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles (United States). .
The fifth installment will be Indiana Jones’s last adventure on the big screen, but the Disney+ platform is already developing a parallel series that would be based on the famous archaeologist’s goddaughter, Helena, who would take over as the new protagonist.
