32 foreign citizens have been investigated or convicted of sexual crimes against minors in Medellín.
The Government of Antioquia announced a great mobilization day in the nine subregions of the department On September 23, within the framework of the International Day against Commercial Sexual Exploitation of children and adolescents.
According to departmental administration, The strategy will have the support of about 50 actors in the tourism sector.
From the Social Programs Unit, practical tools have been delivered to 1,150 strategic actors for the prevention and detection of this crime, as well as to 3,216 girls, boys and adolescents, who participated in training meetings focused on self -care.

To the mobilization they will be added Municipal City Halls, Educational Institutions, Police, Hotel companies, shops, transporters and local media.
The campaign, which will bear the name “Antioquia protects us”, seeks to prevent child sexual exploitation in the context of travel and tourism, make this problem visible through an educational and mobilization strategy, and articulate the efforts of different departmental units together with entities such as the Police and the Prosecutor’s Office.
The activities will be developed In Apartadó (Urabá), Guatapé (East), Caucasia (Bajo Cauca), Valdivia (North), Amalfi (Northeast), Jericho (Southwest), Puerto Triunfo (Magdalena Medio), Santa Fe de Antioquia (West) and Itagüí (Aburrá Valley).

“The tourism sector plays a fundamental role because we are the eyes that detect any abnormality. We cannot allow any type of sexual exploitation. The hotels have internal protocols: if we detect that someone arrives with a minor, we give immediate notice to the police. As a guild we maintain the commitment to prevent this crime ”, Sandra Restrepo, executive director of Cotelco Antioquia, said.
Finally, the Government stressed that in the department progress in a work articulated with the Regional Directorate of Migration Colombia and the Government of the United States in the implementation of the Ángel Watch alert system, thanks to which the entry of 32 foreign citizens investigated or convicted of sexual crimes against minors has been prevented.
