Antioquia Government rejects acts of violence against animals in corralejas

The Government of Antioquia, through the Animal Protection and Welfare Managementmade a call to the people of Antioquia regarding the care that must be taken with these sentient beings.

The call comes bearing in mind that at the end of the year and the beginning of the next, in some municipalities of the department it is customary to carry out the well-known corralejas. From there to The departmental authorities reiterate that in these events the use of elements that hurt, cause pain or death to animals.

In this regard, July Andrea Montoya León, Manager of Animal Protection and Welfare of the Government of Antioquia, indicated that “Although corralejas are not prohibited, public resources cannot be used in the facilities where they are carried out. In addition, the use of elements that hurt or cause pain to animals in this type of shows is prohibited,” he said.

It is worth mentioning that regarding the topic, The Risk Management Committee issued a warning about the danger of collapse of the corralejas of the municipality of Caucasiawhich are scheduled to take place from December 28 to January 2, 2025.

An inspection carried out by the Committee revealed a series of deficiencies in the boxes, evacuation routes, planks and stringerswhich compromise the stability of the structure. There, according to the report, there are structural failures detected in the scenario.

Besides, the organizing board has not guaranteed adequate evacuation routes nor has it carried out the corresponding signage, which would make safe evacuation in the event of an emergency difficult. Despite these shortcomings, the organization allowed children to enter the event, exposing them to even greater risk.

The authorities recall that There are sanctions for behavior considered cruel and by procedures that cause suffering to animals.

Corresponding to the corralejas in Caucasia, Bajo Cauca, Antioquia completed at the beginning of 2024, Governor Andrés Julián Rendón assured that They are looking for how they can assume control over this type of competitions.
