Changes to the Regulations of the General Law for Tobacco Control also prohibit people under 18 years of age from entering smoking areas.
This reform, published in the Official Gazette of the Federation (DOF), seeks to “protect the population from exposure to tobacco smoke in any physical area with public access, in closed spaces, in all workplaces, in transportation public, in spaces of collective concurrence, or in public and private schools of all educational levels.
Places where smoking is prohibited in Mexico
The new regulation prohibits smoking or lighting any tobacco or nicotine product in closed, public or “collective” places.
These places were classified as 100% smoke-free spaces.
Smoke-free areas, including transportation cars, must place a sign at the entrance with the legend: “It is prohibited to smoke, consume or have lit any tobacco or nicotine product.” As well as posters with warning messages about not complying with this rule and the telephone number where complaints and reports can be filed.
