MIAMI, United States. — The organization The People’s Forum launched a message in the Sunday edition of the newspaper New York Times for the president of the United States, Joe Biden, to eliminate the sanctions imposed on the Cuban regime.
The text, published under the title Let Cuba rebuildassures that the US sanctions and embargo prevent Cuba from recovering from the damage caused by the Hurricane Ian.
“The Biden Administration needs to act right now to help the Cuban people. Hurricane Ian caused great devastation. The power grid was damaged and the electrical system collapsed. More than 4,000 homes have been completely destroyed or seriously damaged,” says the text, which appeared in the printed edition of the influential American newspaper.
The People’s Forum insists that “Cuba must be allowed, even for the next six months, to buy the necessary construction materials to rebuild” the country.
“Cubans are facing a huge humanitarian crisis because of Hurricane Ian. Despite Cuba’s well-known preparedness for natural disasters, the damage from this hurricane has been immense.”
According to the NGO, “people from all over the world are eager to sell construction materials and provide aid, but the US policy of sanctions and embargo against Cuba threatens US and other companies to do business with Cuba, even for goods and more basic materials.
The message adds that this policy “also deters and makes it almost impossible for organizations in the US to send aid in a timely manner.”
The call from The People’s Forum also criticized the inclusion of Cuba on the list of state sponsors of terrorism, in which it was included in January 2021 by mandate of former President Donald Trump.
It is inconceivable to undertake a collective punishment against an entire people by preventing Cuba from buying construction materials or receiving aid at this critical hour (…). The people of Cuba are part of our family, the human family. Don’t let outdated Cold War policies stop the world from helping the Cuban people rebuild and return to their homes, rebuild the power grid, and have clean drinking water and access to food. The time to act is now! Cuba is our neighbor. People from all over the world want to help!”, the text ends.
The publication of The People’s Forum was distributed by the castro propagandaas well as by representatives of the island regime.
