The dialogue with the communities of the province of Cotabambas, in Apurímac, failed for the second time in the government’s attempt to solve the conflict of The Bambas.
The representatives of the Executive received the demands of the communities for the expressions of Prime Minister Aníbal Torres, who a week ago described them as kidnappers. In that sense, they demanded his presence to apologize.
In this regard, the specialist in mining issues, Anthony Laub, assured that the new attempt at dialogue between the government and the Fuerabamba community aims to “rock” the community members. Laub considered that the Government has “no interest in solving mining problems.”
“I think (…) they are rocking them, in good Peruvian. Indeed, they send mid-high-ranking officials, but the one who had originally promised to go and solve the problem, which was the prime minister, is not going. […] They have no interest in resolving the mining problems, they have no interest in resolving Las Bambas, just as they had no interest in Cuajone being resolved,” Laub said.
The specialist considered that what is sought is to “implode” the State and thus have the excuse to blame the economic model and promote the Constituent Assembly that is intended to be convened for the change of the Constitution.
“Reality is clearly indicating to us which route they are following; it is to stir up social conflicts, to make a show of going and wanting to talk, to end up blaming the model, the businessmen, the rich, the monopolies for the “non-solution” of the problems. […] What they want to do is blow up the state from within. They want to implode it. What they want to do is make the State fall, collapse, and once that happens, go out and say that it is the fault of the model and the Constitution”.
