Antel will allocate 1.3 million dollars to fiber optics and radio bases in Río Negro

“It is the most important investment of the last 5 years in the department,” informed the president of Antel, Gabriel Gurméndez, at a press conference, this Tuesday, the 24th, together with the mayor of Río Negro, Omar Lafluf, in which he explained that the works consist of the installation of fiber optics in three locations and base stations in nine, with the aim of improving connectivity in telephony and internet.

Gurméndez pointed out that, throughout the country, 90 towns were identified in which connectivity should be improved through radio bases, whose cost is between 70,000 and 250,000 dollars each. Some 40 antennas were installed last year and in the remaining towns the work will be completed in 2022.

The chief stated that another effort by Antel to solve connectivity in homes, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and industry was to replace the copper link system with fiber optics, which began in 121 locations in the interior of the country and 8 peripheral neighborhoods of Montevideo.

Likewise, he pointed out that, in Río Negro, the works for the placement of this material will cover San Javier, Nuevo Berlín and Algorta.

He also specified that, at the end of the government period, new radio bases will be available that will improve coverage in the three aforementioned locations, as well as in Fray Bentos, Las Cañas and Route 3. These are added to those of Young, Paso de los Mellizos, Tres Quintas and Sauce, which were installed in 2021.

“The most important thing is the message of a public company that puts its gaze where it is necessary to look. With all the investment in the country, 99.9% of the solutions would be given,” Gurméndez stressed.
