The telecommunications company invested, between 2021 and 2022, 131 million dollars for the realization of 622 radio bases in 90 locations, informed the president of Antel, Gabriel Gurméndez, at the inauguration of the institutional stand at Expo Prado. In addition, he stated that, throughout the period, fiber optics will be installed in 154 locations. “The priority is people and achieving equity in connectivity,” he said.
The inauguration took place this Tuesday the 13th, with the presence of the Minister of Industry, Energy and Mining, Omar Paganini; the undersecretary of the portfolio, Walter Verri; the president of Ancap, Alejandro Stipanicic; the president of OSE, Raúl Montero, and members of the Antel board.
Gurméndez highlighted the professionalism of the public company he directs and the austere management of resources, as well as the social sensitivity to provide services. In addition, he stressed that the priority is to invest in different departments, with the aim of correcting inequities in telecommunications.
Likewise, it reported that during the 2021-2022 period, 131 million dollars were invested to install and strengthen 622 radio bases in 90 towns in the so-called “deep interior”, where there was no connectivity. “This represents 81% of the entity’s total investment,” he said, adding that generating more bandwidth, through capacity improvements and speed increases, is a substantial change.
In addition, fiber optics will be installed in 154 rural locations and there are 100 works in progress. “We aspire that in the year 2023 there will be no copper data connection,” he said.
For his part, Paganini stressed that the Government’s national vocation is “to reach everyone and give opportunities to everyone, in all corners of the country.” He added that 21st century technology enables national integration and that connectivity becomes essential today, as demonstrated during the pandemic.
