The directory of Antelthe state-owned company telecommunications of Uruguay, has decided to implement an adjustment in its rates beginning in January 2025. The vote for this resolution was divisive, reflecting different perspectives within the board on the proposed changes.
The Executive must now approve these adjustments for their entry into force, which were rejected by the representative of the Frente Amplio but supported by those of the ruling coalition.
Antel’s price increases for the beginning of the year

The Entertainment Plan It will also undergo an adjustment, increasing its cost from $2,390 to $2,500, an increase of 4.6%.
On the other hand, some plans will experience reductions in prices. He Basic Fiber Plan is reduced by 5.4%, decreasing from $1,686 to $1,595.
The Fiber Plan with limit 1 will have a more significant reduction, from $806 to $640, which represents a decrease of 20.5%.
Antel’s justification for increasing public prices
The tariff adjustment of Antel is framed in a context of significant investments in infrastructure and technologyaimed at maintaining its leadership in a highly competitive sector.
This type of adjustment is not exclusive to the telecommunications company, since state entities such as UTE They have also announced adjustments. UTE will increase its rates by 3% starting on the first day of January 2025, aligning itself with Antel in adjusting to market conditions.
Unlike the consensus reached in the tariff adjustment of the electric company UTE, the vote of Antel was divided. Annabela Suburú, president of Antel, along with other representatives of the ruling party, voted in favor of the changes.
However, Daniel Larrosa, representative of the Frente Amplio, registered his vote againstevidencing discrepancies in the perception of the impact of these adjustments.
